چکیده

In this paper, we introduce the spatial polarimetric time-frequency distribution (SPTFD) as a platform to process nonstationary array signals with two orthogonal polarization components, such as horizontal and vertical. The use of dual polarization empowers the STFDs and improves the robustness of the respective signal and noise subspaces. With the additional polarimetric information, improved direction finding performance can be achieved. To demonstrate such advantages, the polarimetric time-frequency MUSIC (PTFMUSIC) method is proposed based on the SPTFD platform and is shown to outperform the MUSIC techniques based on the time-frequency, polarimetric, and conventional methods.

Spatial Polarimetric Time-Frequency Distributions and Applications to Direction-of-Arrival Estimation

Time-frequency distributions (TFDs) have evolved to be a powerful technique for nonstationary signal analysis and synthesis. With the use of a multi-sensor array, spatial time-frequency distributions (STFDs) have been developed and successfully applied to high-resolution direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation and blind recovery of the source waveforms. In this paper, the polarimetric dimension i...

DOA Estimation of Nonstationary Signals

In this Chapter, we discuss the direction finding problem of sources emitting or inducing nonstationary signals. The focus is on signals which are uniquely characterized by their instantaneous frequencies. Recognizing the quadratic time-frequency distributions as an effective tool to localize signal power in the time-frequency domain, we present nonstationary array processing in the context of ...

Ship Detection Using Polarimetric Radarsat-2 Data and Multi-dimensional Coherent Time-frequency Analysis

A polarimetric coherent Time-Frequency (TF) decomposition approach for ship detection is proposed in this paper. At first, the PolSAR data are decomposed in azimuth direction, range direction only or in both directions. Then a novel statistical descriptor called polarimetric TF coherence indicator, is applied to detect maritime targets in different environments. By using polarimetric RadarSat2 ...

Effects of Crossterms on the Performance of Time-frequency Music

Spatial time-frequency distributions (STFDs) have been recently introduced as the natural means to deal with source signals that are localizable in the time-frequency domain. It has been shown that improved estimates of the signal and noise subspaces are achieved by constructing the subspaces from the time-frequency signatures of the signal arrivals rather than from the data covariance matrices...
